“Artist” Starves Dog to Death
Being an artist, this is a rough subject for me. Yes, I do not believe in censorship… however this is a bit different.
Artist Guillermo Vargas Habacuc did a piece at the Visual Arts Biennial of Central America. His “piece” has stricken a very deep nerve with me. Basically, he found a dog on the street, and then tied it to a corner of the room, and allowed it to starve to death as visitors watched the dog die.
Truly DISGUSTING.
So that goes back to censorship. Animal fights and abuse are legal in Central America (I believe; correct me if I am wrong) but this is just sickening. Should it be made illegal? I think so, absolutely. If someone did this in America, they would be fined and carted of to jail immediately.
Well, anyway, what is done is done, right? Unfortunately not. The Biennial is asking Habacuc to do ANOTHER installment for 2008 because it was such a “moving piece.” I don’t know about you, but I grew up in the country. I’ve seen animals be put out of their misery. Heck, when I was 12, I shot a black bird out of our garden and then cried about it for the next 3 months.
What do you think of this “piece?”
I know that I am definitely against it. Being that I am, I have to link you guys to the online petition to put a stop to this. All you have to do is put your name and email, a few additional comments if you wish. By all means you do not have to go there, but posting the option here makes me feel a hair better.
I am not posting any pictures here because some of you make just be waking up to your morning coffee and these images are very unnerving and graphic, but I am sure you realize all of those pictures are just a google search away.
Leave comments below if you have any information or opinions to add to this story. I am curious to see what kind of reaction this sparks.
