McLame Hates Us But Obama’s Making Effort

July 06, 2008 By: cas Category: General, News No Comments →

It was a long and arduous race, but now that we are down to two candidates it is important to focus on each one’s ability to lead this country back into good health. Girl, I care about the issues but number one for me right now is the overall state of the country. I’ve done my research and McLame really bores me. Obama may not be my first choice, but he certainly seems like a good man.

Since California legalized gay marriage, the two front-runners have spoken out about the issues. Neither candidate supports same-sex marriage, but it seems like Obama is going in the right direction for LGBT America.

Check out this cute message the pride breakfast of the LGBT Alice B. Toklas Club in SanFran received: “II Kissed a Presidential Candidate and I Liked It oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the US Constitution or those of other states… I want to congratulate all of you who have shown your love for each other by getting married these last few weeks.”

This man seems to know how to speak to everyone but the religion and gun crazy folk in small town Pennsylvania (bless us all)!

In the message, he also endorsed a bunch of good stuff that we should probably remember: repealing the ban on out-of-the-closet LGBT members in the military and 100% complete equal rights to same-sex couples under state AND federal law! Good bye significance of number 1,138!

As for McLame, you can imagine that all he had to say was, well — lame. As he spoke with some evenagelical leaders in Ohio, he pointed out that he was in support of amending the constitution in order to “recognize marriage as a unique institution between a man and a woman, just as we did in my home state of Arizona.” The next paragraph I read in the Gay City News article seemed so significant, I thought I’d quote it word for word:

“Phil Burgess, who led the successful effort to ban same-sex marriage in the Ohio Constitution in 2004, told the newspaper, ‘We told him if he didn’t come out and share his pro-family stances on these issues, then he can kiss Ohio good-bye.’”

Way to pull those strings, Phil Buttkiss. You’re a jerk! I bet you think homosexuality is caused by childhood trauma too. Well, y’all know how I feel about the situation. What do you think about this coming election regarding gay rights?

London Mayor Sports Pink Pride Hat … Wait a Minute!

July 06, 2008 By: cas Category: News No Comments →

Boris Johnson and Bunny MinionsBefore you scream you go girl, keep in mind Mayor Boris Johnson previously wrote in his book Friends, Voters, Countrymen, “if gay marriage was OK - and I was uncertain on the issue - then I saw no reason in principle why a union should not be consecrated between three men, as well as two men, or indeed three men and a dog.”

As 365Gay.com reports, the mayor wore a pink cowboy hat as he led the recent gay pride parade in London — attracting “boos” from all around! That’s one thing that is great about politics. No matter what you say or when you say it, it will always come back to haunt you. So maybe he has changed his opinion in the last seven years, or maybe he had a bit too much to drink. What I don’t get is why a pink cowboy hat? As a public figure, especially one who held such a controversial opinion, wouldn’t he want to sport perhaps a rainbow badge? A smile? How about a suit and a wave?

Pink cowboy hat? Are you serious?! Well, OK Mayor. Perhaps his image consultant wasn’t available for the pride parade, but I think the “boos” were well deserved. If you’re going to say something that you know could hold so much criticism, don’t go mocking the stereotype. Nothing hurts worse than seeing public figures — especially ones that are supposed to be representing us – make such a statement.

Fortunately, there are other people in the gay crowd who think it is a step in the right direction. I can accept that. Chief Executive of Stonewall Ben Summerskill said “all politicians are on a journey, and that Johnson seems to be heading in the right direction.”

Well, saddle me up and get me some flannel: this stereotypical world ain’t big enough for the two of us, Mr. Mayor.

High School Musical Scriptwriter Outs Character

June 11, 2008 By: cas Category: Movies, News 1 Comment →

Whether you love it or hate it, one of our favorite guilty pleasures at AngryRainbows is High School Musical, a Disney released musical about just what it says — putting on a high school musical. There is a character for everyone; Sharpay, the self-obsessed future theater-major diva. Troy, the jock turned nice boy who hides his true feelings. Gabriella, the hot new girl who eventually wins the school popularity contest. Oh, and Ryan — the stylish, misunderstood brother of Sharpay, who has no love interest in the movie, is a great dancer, and is heavily involved in theater.

You guessed it — he’s gay. I am sure we all had our guesses. The writer of the script, David Simpatico, said that the character was largely based off of himself in high school, and he was in fact written as a gay character. In the Disney movie, most allusions to him being gay were cut out, however, in the stage production it is very easy to tell who he is attracted to — but he is still without a love interest.

Simpatico made it seem as though he wanted a strong, gay male character (in the stage version, it is Ryan who saves the day by revealing Sharpay’s evil intentions). without tying him down to his sexuality. And as most of the songs in HSM suggest — it is OK to be who you are.

Though the movie is filled with cheese, its morals and values are right where they need to be for this generation of children. It is great that there is a positive, popular role model for younger children for the LGBT community — even if most of them won’t get to view the less censored HSM Tour.

Greek Lesbian Pride! Or Why I am Not a “Lesbian”

May 01, 2008 By: cas Category: News, Pictures 1 Comment →

I saw this on Yahoo randomly today. Apparently Greece is pissed. “Lesbian” is no longer a politically correct term. And why? Well, who here remembers Sappho and her promotion of love between women? Apparently the people of Lesbos are offended because they just now realized they couldn’t refer to themselves as “Lesbians.”

OK, I am gay and I am snickering.

They say that the “other meaning” insults their identity. Those crazy Lesbians!

“Lambrou said the word lesbian has only been linked with gay women in the past few decades. “But we have been Lesbians for thousands of years,” said Lambrou, who publishes a small magazine on ancient Greek religion and technology that frequently criticizes the Christian Church.”

Well, there you have it. I am no longer a Lesbian (unless I spell it with a lowercase “L”?). Personally, if I was from the island of Lesbos, I would be proud to be a Lesbian. I’d be proud to be from an area with over 250,000 Lesbian men and women! But I guess we all can’t be gay, er, happy.

“Artist” Starves Dog to Death

April 14, 2008 By: cas Category: Art, News 6 Comments →

Being an artist, this is a rough subject for me. Yes, I do not believe in censorship… however this is a bit different.

Artist Guillermo Vargas Habacuc did a piece at the Visual Arts Biennial of Central America. His “piece” has stricken a very deep nerve with me. Basically, he found a dog on the street, and then tied it to a corner of the room, and allowed it to starve to death as visitors watched the dog die.

Truly DISGUSTING.

So that goes back to censorship. Animal fights and abuse are legal in Central America (I believe; correct me if I am wrong) but this is just sickening. Should it be made illegal? I think so, absolutely. If someone did this in America, they would be fined and carted of to jail immediately.

Well, anyway, what is done is done, right? Unfortunately not. The Biennial is asking Habacuc to do ANOTHER installment for 2008 because it was such a “moving piece.” I don’t know about you, but I grew up in the country. I’ve seen animals be put out of their misery. Heck, when I was 12, I shot a black bird out of our garden and then cried about it for the next 3 months.

What do you think of this “piece?”

I know that I am definitely against it. Being that I am, I have to link you guys to the online petition to put a stop to this. All you have to do is put your name and email, a few additional comments if you wish. By all means you do not have to go there, but posting the option here makes me feel a hair better.

I am not posting any pictures here because some of you make just be waking up to your morning coffee and these images are very unnerving and graphic, but I am sure you realize all of those pictures are just a google search away.

Leave comments below if you have any information or opinions to add to this story. I am curious to see what kind of reaction this sparks.
